Persian Beef And Pea Stew


400 grams McCain Peas

2 tablespoons olive oil

800 grams cubed beef pieces

1 large onion diced

2 stalks celery sliced

1 bay leaf

3 teaspoons minced garlic

3 tablespoons tomato paste

3 - 4 cups beef stock

1 teaspoon chilli powder

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1 teaspoon cumin powder

1 teaspoon mixed spice

1 teaspoon turmeric

2 teaspoons paprika

Juice of 1 lemon

Salt and pepper




Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 120 minutes

  1. Season the meat with salt and pepper
  2. In a large pot add the oil and fry the beef in batches
  3. Remove the beef and set aside
  4. To the same pot add the onions, celery, and bay leaf
  5. After 5 minutes add the garlic, mix well and sauté for a minute before adding the spices with a dash of water
  6. Add the tomato paste and mix well, then add the beef back to the pot - mix well to combine all the flavours
  7. Add in the stock and allow to cook until meat is tender
  8. Add in the peas and cook for a further 10 minutes
  9. Remove from heat and add the lemon juice
  10. Serve hot with rice or mash
