Battered Fish With Pea Salsa Verde And McCain Crispers


McCain Crispers

2 cups McCain Peas


For the Fish

4 x 200-gram Hake fillets

1 cup Flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 can cold beer


Oil for frying


For the Salsa Verde

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1/2 cup fresh basil

¼ cup fresh mint

¼ cup fresh parsley

2 teaspoons capers

1 teaspoon chilli flakes

Zest and juice of 1 lime

Salt and pepper




Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes

  1. Cook Crispers according to package instructions
  2. Combine all the ingredients for the salsa verde and blend until smooth, adjust seasoning
  3. Steam the peas for 6 minutes and toss through with the salsa verde
  4. Combine the flour, baking powder, beer and salt and mix until you get a smooth like pancake batter
  5. In a deep pot or deep fryer heat enough oil to deep fry the fish
  6. Dip the fish fillets in the batter and fry in the hot oil until crispy and cooked
  7. Serve with pea salsa verde and crispers
