Our Sustainability Journey Continues...

Following World Environment Day, we are officially launching Sustainability Week, where we will be taking a look at our sustainability commitments as well as our achievements to date.

At McCain, we are proud to connect South African families every day through planet-friendly food - this forms part of our company purpose to grow food responsibly, reduce our carbon footprint and support the communities where we operate.

While we are implementing best practice regenerative agriculture at all our farms, this week we will be launching our Farm of the Future project in the North West Province - the second of its kind in the McCain global business focused on regenerative agriculture.

Our McCain “Chips In” employee volunteer day will take place on the 9th June, where we will be visiting the Tholakele Centre of Hope in Springs and Siyonqoba Centre for the Disabled in Delmas. Here we have launched community food gardens, in partnership with Shoprite and Food & Trees for Africa.

Over the past year, our food donation drive has seen us reduce food wastage significantly, providing over 1.8 million meals to needy communities across South Africa. On Friday 10th June, our focus will shift to Resource-Efficient Operations - we are very proud to announce that our solar projects in Springs and Delmas are finally under construction and are expected to be fully functional by the end of July. This project is going to help cut down our reliance on the national grid, and will assist us in reducing carbon emissions.

Going into 2022 and the future, there is a lot to look forward to and work towards. We continue to take action towards our commitment to produce planet-friendly foods and ensure we feed the planet sustainably for generations to come.
